Why do drill rigs need inspection?

In mining industry, drill rigs are used for mineral exploration. They are complex units and Mining companies expect their drill rigs to be operated without any safety issue while drilling operation. In mining, rigs are used mainly for exploration and production as well as associated activity i.e. Water bore. Most mining companies prefer their drilling rigs to be inspected prior to mobilization to site. Project managers, Exploration managers, Geologists and a members of drilling project team have the responsibility to properly plan inspections of their drilling equipment. Drilling plays major role in mining operation the inspection of drill rigs can benefit both the people and environment as it helps to provide a safe workplace and avoid accidents.  Drill rigs are often used in harsh conditions and so it is crucial to inspect drill rigs and their supporting equipment.

Drilling contractors and employers needs to understand and follow the MSIR 1995 (Mines Safety and Inspection Regulations 1995) – Part 6 which includes responsibilities for plant safety.

How can Rapallo Help?

Rapallo conducts all types of rig inspections including surface rigs and underground rigs out of both our Kalgoorlie office, and our Perth office, this gives our team urgent access to the goldfields region and allows us to inspect rigs all across the Western Australia. These inspections can occur at any site or location allowing them to be performed when it is most convenient. Depending on the condition of the Drill rig, the Rapallo team is also capable to do Nondestructive testing (NDT) on critical components of drill rig. Depending on the component, Magnetic particle inspection (MPI) and ultrasonic testing (UT) will likely be performed, however other NDT testing method are also available.
